Obituary of Margaret Forestell

It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret (Duffie) Forestell announces her peaceful passing on March 22, 2022 at Fredericton, NB with her family by her side. Born on February 27, 1929, in Fredericton, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Frances (Rutledge) Duffie and was the last surviving member of her family. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Francis W. Forestell. After graduating from Fredericton High School as an honours student, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949 and a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1951, both from the University of New Brunswick. She was admitted to the Law Society of New Brunswick that same year. After practicing law for three years in Grand Falls with her brother, Ted Duffie, she returned to Fredericton where she practiced with John C. McNair and later with Robert J. Howie, eventually carrying on her own practice where her son Donald was fortunate to begin his law career. She was recognized in her profession by an appointment as a Queen’s Counsel in 1991 and was given a life membership in the Law Society in 2001. During her legal career, she served on various committees of the Law Society. She also served on the Boards of Directors of the Arthritis Society and York Manor and in later years she was a volunteer on various charitable organizations. She was a member of St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Women’s League. Following retirement, she and Frank travelled to Ireland, enjoyed vacations with family and travelled to various points of the USA and Caribbean. Their greatest love, however, were the many summers spent at the cottage at Robertson Point with extended family. Margaret will be greatly missed by her three children, Andrew (Diane), Donald, and Katherine Campbell (Patrick) as well as her five grandchildren, Sophie (Tom), Robert, Caroline, Anya, and Julia as well as her great-grandson, Louis Francis, her many nieces and nephews, and extended family. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by one sister, Marie and eight brothers, Msgr. Donald, Ted, John, Maurice, Darrell, Eugene, Bill, and Gerald. Many thanks go to Dr. Sheldon Wood and his team who compassionately cared for Mom in her later years and Dr. Gordon Plummer who cared for her until his retirement. We would also like to thank Mom’s caregivers from Serenity and one special angel whom Mom was blessed to have care for her. Donations in her name can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, the CNIB, the Arthritis Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice. Margaret’s family remembers her tenderly as a woman of faith, who lived her life with great humility, integrity and love. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home on Sunday, March 27, 2022 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Dunstan's Catholic Church on Monday, March 28, at 12 noon with Fr. Bill Brennan as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery at a later time.
