Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Hansen

Beth Hansen, 64, of Fredericton, NB, passed away suddenly Thursday, June 9, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Beaconsfield, QC she was the daughter of the late Arthur Hannah and Gladys Vivian (Lindow) Small. After graduating from high school, she moved to Fredericton, where she studied at the University of New Brunswick and completed a diploma in Accounting at Atlantic Business School, subsequently working for many years in the Financial Services department at UNB. While playing saxophone with the Thomists, she met and married her beloved Garry. The young couple moved to Toronto and then to Chatham, NB before returning to Fredericton, where Beth put her famed organizational skills and friendly demeanor to work as a medical office administrator for many years. Beth was a remarkable woman of great strength, kindness, compassion, and thoughtfulness. With determination and courage she faced and overcame a cancer that was widely considered incurable. Yet whatever struggles she faced, she always thought of others, always finding the quiet, thoughtful gesture that didn’t occur to anyone else. For thirty-six years she shared in a marriage that was full of a simple but profound love and tenderness, expressed daily in a long hug while passing in the kitchen or a quick squeeze of the hand while walking. She deeply loved her son, Brian, her family and relatives, and her many friends. The number of people she touched is immeasurable, and the absence she leaves behind will always be felt. She is survived by her husband Garry; her son Brian (Kathryn) of Fredericton; brothers Ted Hannah (Debbie) of Calgary, and Greg Hannah (Nancy) of Ottawa; step-mother Dorothy Chant of Toronto; and step-brother Ted Chant (Susan) of Toronto. Visitation to be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. A private Interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
