Obituary of Edward Maurice Savage

The family of Mike Savage are saddened to announce his passing at the Veterans Health Unit, after a period of declining health, on June 19th, 2022. Born in Fredericton, NB, on October 4th, 1946, Mike was the son of the late Georgia "Jo" (Cole) and J. Raymond Savage. Mike is survived by his sons Raymond (Alana) and Ryan (Karen); grandsons Dominik, Jackson, Dane and Hudson; sisters Barbara Stratmoen (David), Colleen Savage and Mary McDonald; brothers Reginald Savage (Carolyn) and Daniel Savage; long-time companion and friend Shirley Paul. Mike joined the military in 1968, and after several postings, he retired as a Flight Engineer with 403 Squadron in 1987. Following his retirement from active duty, Mike pursued various careers and discovered his true passion - politics! Mike served on Oromocto Town Council from 1990 to 2004, including several years as Deputy Mayor. While in the military, Mike took part in many sports and became an avid golfer and curler in his later years. Hunting was a passion of Mike’s and he spent many enjoyable seasons at the hunting camp. Mike was known as a real joke teller and could always be seen with a smile on his face and a beer in his hand. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Please join us in celebrating Mike’s life Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 1:00 pm at J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel, 160 York Street Fredericton, NB, with Fr. Peter Osborne officiating. A Royal Canadian Legion Branch 93 tribute will be held prior to the service at 12:45 pm. For those unable to attend, a live stream of the service will be available at https://vimeo.com/723527343. The family wishes to invite you to a reception following the service that will also be held at J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel. A private interment will take place at the Hermitage Catholic Cemetery following the reception. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike’s memory may be made to the Parkinson’s society.
