Obituary of Robert G. McCullough

On May 14, 2020 Bob passed away at the Kiwanis House, Stan Cassidy Center in Fredericton, NB. He was known for enjoying his work, as forestry was his passion. He was involved with his community and he enjoyed many athletic endeavours. Bob is survived by his sons, Frank (Katie) of Calgary, AB and Tim of Charlottetown, PE as well as his granddaughters, Mary Kathleen and Lillian Grace. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Lillian (Sevenfifer) McCullough; his wife, Mary in 2009; sisters, Joyce Grant and Elizabeth McKinnon and brother, John. At the time of Bob's passing COVID restrictions did not allow for gatherings. Bob's family would now like to invite you to gather with them at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, September 15th, 2021 at 2:00 pm to celebrate Bob's life. Please feel free to bring a story to share with us all. Interment will be held on Thursday, September 16th, 2021 at 11:00 am in the Fredericton Rural Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial tributes in Bob's honour may be made to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Foundation, St. Paul's United Church Memorial Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice. _____________________________________________________ The passing of Robert McCullough of Fredericton, NB occurred on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the Kiwanis House at Stan Cassidy Center, Fredericton, NB. Born in Lansdowne, ON on September 22, 1928 he was the son of the late George and Lillian (Sevenfifer) McCullough and husband of the late Mary Lenore(Noble) McCullough. Bob graduated from UNB in Forest Engineering in 1952 having been awarded three academic scholarships and married Mary Noble in 1953. He began his long time, much loved career after graduation with Canfor’s Vancouver Island railway logging operations. In 1960 he returned to Fredericton to join the newly created Forests Branch of the NB Department of Lands and Mines and in 1972 he joined the NB Department of Economic Growth. Bob had a passion for forestry. His career involved fire detection, prevention and control as well as reforestation, and he introduced the aerial fire spotting and water bombing programs in NB in the 60’s. He fostered the development of training programs and mutual aid arrangements among the eastern provinces and the northeastern states. Bob finished his career with the NB Department of Economic Growth where he focused on forest based industrial development. In the 60’s, Bob served as a Fredericton City Councillor and was a member of the Planning Commission. Among his athletic pursuits he was a Charter Member of the Capital Winter Club and enjoyed many years of downhill skiing at Crabbe Mountain. He was a member of the four man sculls team winning the Henely Regatta for Canada in 1946. He is survived by his sons, Frank (Katie) of Calgary, AB and Tim of Charlottetown, PE as well as his granddaughters, Mary Kathleen and Lillian Grace. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary in 2009; sisters, Joyce Grant and Elizabeth McKinnon and brother, John McCullough. Due to the present pandemic restrictions, a memorial service will be held and announced at a later date.
