Obituary of Dorothy Jean Young

In her 100th year, Jean Young passed away peacefully on May 26th, 2020 at Windsor Court Retirement Residence in Fredericton, NB. Born on February 1st, 1921 at Cambridge Narrows, Queens County, NB, Jean was the daughter of the late Cecil Ferris and Catherine (née Saunders) Ferris. She was raised lovingly by her grandmother Annie Dykeman in Jemseg, NB. Jeanie was a loving sister to Albert Ferris, Bettie Bartlett, Laura Jacobson and Donald Ganong, all who predeceased her. Jean was also sadly predeceased by her daughter Nancy Ann Beyeler (1947-2009). Jean served in the Second World War with the RCAF in Canada, training Allied Pilots in aerial photography. She was a loyal wife to the late Norman Arthur Young (1920-2000) of Fredericton, with whom she shared a love of the New Brunswick landscape, its rivers, lakes, valleys and woods. Together, they spent happy summers with their children and grandsons at their cottage on the Grand Lake. She is survived by her son John N. Young and his wife Gloria Guitard of Fredericton; two daughters Donna J. Young of Pickering, ON and Bettie J. Young of Calgary, AB; son-in-law, Jorg Beyeler and his wife Gloria of Truro, NS; her grandsons Adam M. Young of Calgary, AB and Graeme Beyeler (Andra Schwarz) of Leipzig, Deutschland; her sister-in-law Eileen Ferris as well as many nieces and nephews. The family is grateful for the loving care she received at both the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital and from the staff at Windsor Court, both in Fredericton. Due to the present pandemic restrictions, a private service will be held at Brunswick St. Baptist Church, with a celebration to be held and announced at a later date. Interment will be held at the Fredericton Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made in Jean’s honor to the Fredericton Food Bank, Canadian Cancer Society, Parkinson Canada or to a charity of your choice.
