Obituary of John Phillips

Gilmore Phillips, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John "Gilmore" Phillips on May 28th, 2020, at the age of 85. Born on January 6th, 1935, in Rusagonis, he was the son of Sherman and Ethel (O’Leary) and husband of 58 wonderful years to Jean (Scribner) Phillips. He was a loving father to three children, Barbie Doten (Peter), Steven Phillips (Dale Dassett) and Gerry Phillips. Among those he loved were three grandchildren and three great grandchildren, Sara Goguen (Ryan) and their two daughters Gracie and Kaia, Lisa Doten (Billy Mahoney) and their son Will, and Phillip Doten. As well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gilmore had many passions, family being number one. Any time he had all of his children together was when he was happiest. He loved camping with his family and you could say he was the best father in the world. His knowledge of family both recent and past went beyond many lifetimes. He took joy in going through photo albums with family and providing rich stories about those photographed. Another one of his passions was trucks. He spent decades trucking, received awards from the Trucking Association, owned an antique firetruck and loved antique car shows. More often than not, you could find him out in his garage. Gilmore was a true gentleman. He did things out of the kindness of his heart and would never ask for anything in return. He was a solid part of the Rusagonis community and will be dearly missed by all. Although he has departed, he will be forever in our hearts and our cherished memories. Gilmore will be laid to rest in the Rusagonis Baptist Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. For those who wish, donations in Gilmore's memory can be made to the Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.
