Obituary of Jean Marie Stephens

In celebration of a life well lived, the family of Jean Marie (Ripley) Stephens announces her passing on June 30, 2020. Born on July 28, 1919 in Moncton NB, she was the daughter of the late Ida and Fred Ripley. In addition to her parents, Jean is predeceased by her loving husband Jack Stephens who passed in 1993; siblings Evelyn, Milner, Minnie, Percy, Lillian, Alice, Beth, Stephen, Joyce and Irene, and recently her son-in-law Lloyd Tompkins. Jean is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Marie Tompkins, son, Byron Stephens (Marion) and her loyal son, Timothy Stephens, all of whom she adored; 5 grandsons, Tony, Troy (Debbie) and Rick Tompkins (Lynn), Kevin (Annie) and Cory Stephens; 7 great-grandchildren, Jocelynn Tompkins, Jessica (Matt) Davis, Justin and Zack Tompkins, Emma, Jacob and Payton Stephens; 4 great-great grandchildren, Brandon Bye, Alexandria and Zoe-Lynn Tompkins-Hutchings and Mason Davis; sister-in-law, Marion Ripley of BC; a brother-in-law, John McCabe of Truro, NS, as well as several nieces and nephews. After graduation from the School for the Deaf in Halifax in 1937, she worked as a hairdresser, walking to people's homes. Later she became a tailor working on Air Force uniforms. However, she was a homemaker most of her life, devoting her time to her children and cherished spending precious time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to New Brunswick Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Inc.
