Obituary of Merike Brinsmead
With immense sadness, the family of Merike Brinsmead announces her death at Hospice Fredericton on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at the age of 70. Born in Helsingborg, Sweden, on July 25, 1949, she was the wife of Ronald Brinsmead of Fredericton.
In addition to her husband Ron, Merike leaves behind her beloved children, Craig Brinsmead and Allison Donaghy (Ryan); granddaughters Eleanor and Evelyn Donaghy; and many treasured extended family members and friends. Merike was predeceased by her parents, Rudolf and Aino (Sokk) Tähe.
Ever a beautiful, caring and friendly soul, Merike grew up in St. Catharines, ON, moving to Fredericton with her husband Ron, in 1974. She spent several years at home with her children, then many years working as an administrative assistant within the provincial government and the regional office of the VON. She was incredibly proud of her Estonian heritage, and loved to keep in touch with friends and family near and far. The pride and joy of Merike’s life were her children and precious granddaughters, with whom she spent much time, and loved nothing more than watching them play and grow. She will forever live in our hearts and thoughts.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the staff at the DECH, particularly the oncology department, and to the kind and compassionate team at Hospice Fredericton for the care they gave Merike during her stay there.
A memorial service for Merike will be held at a later date. For those who wish, donations in her memory may be made to Hospice Fredericton, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
