Obituary of Joan Marie Perry

Perry, Joan Marie It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Perry (nee. McIntyre) announce her unexpected passing on July 28, 2020. Born on March 5, 1933, in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of the late William and Katherine (Higgins) McIntyre. Growing up in Saint John, NB, Joan (and her twin) was the second born of four daughters and attended St. Vincent's Catholic school and Mount Carmel Academy. She had a wonderful childhood spending many summers in St. Andrews, performing with her sisters at various events and participating in various outdoor activities. While working at the bank, she met Ken and married at the Cathedral in Saint John in 1960. Life eventually took them to Fredericton where they raised their three children and were married for 58 years. Joan experienced many health issues throughout life but nothing took away from her resilience and determined spirit and she always managed to bounce back. Her love of her family gave her strength to overcome just about anything in life. Her kindness to others was always present and she would give people the clothes off her back and sacrifice herself first. Many people in Fredericton would know mom as "the candy lady". She would always have a supply of Werther's candies to hand out to strangers in exchange for a simple smile and to brighten their day. She always had a kind word and a compliment for everyone she met. As her mother told her, and she always believed throughout her life; "it's nice to be nice". Joan will be greatly missed by her family; children Diana Cybulski (Dan), Patricia Scott and Brian Perry (Kellie); grandchildren Bradley Scott (Angela), Vanessa Pugh (Brad), Matthew, Michael and Anderson; great grandchildren Amelia, Perrin and Rosalee; sister Peggy Bridge, sisters in law and brothers in law; Audrey Arsenault, Marjorie (Ron) Johnson, Johanne (Barry) Rowan, Al (Pat) Poirier, Norma Arsenault and Louise Poirier. as well as several nieces, nephews and special cousins Bobby and Brian Higgins. In addition to her parents, Joan is predeceased by her husband Ken Perry, twin sister Shirley O'Connor and sister Kay MacDonald, son in law Paul Scott, brother and sisters in law; Bruce MacDonald, Jack O'Connor, George Bridge and Lloyd (Henrietta) Poirier, Ruth Perry, Leo Poirier, Ray (Marg) Poirier, Evelyn (Gordie) Godfrey, Elaine (Fred) Dale and Ernie Arsenault. The family would like to thank Debbie and Hugh for their kindness and friendship over the years. By request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, please just tell your family how special they are and how much you love them, as mom did every single time.
