Obituary of Louise Marguerite Mason

It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of Louise Marguerite Mason on July 25 th , 2022, after a short and sudden illness. Born and raised in Montreal, Louise graduated from l’Université de Montreal, Marianopolis College (magna cum laude). Her professional career was always oriented around people, and she gravitated naturally to teaching. She worked as a human resources assistant and language lab instructor for CNR in Montreal before moving to Fredericton. Once there, she took courses at Teachers’ College and in the Centre de Formation Linguistique and became a lecturer in French at the Teachers’ College and in the Department of French at UNB. Louise was a consummate volunteer. She had an uncanny ability to connect with people, whether at the Connaught Street School French Immersion Library, the Parish Council at Holy Family Parish, or as a language tutor with the Multicultural Association of Fredericton. Her most significant work was with the Fredericton Music Festival Committee, where she took on many roles, including 15 years as member and chair of the Scholarship Committee and a consistent supporter of young musicians across the city. She relished the diversity of the people she got to meet and work with and being able to give back to the community of her adopted home. Anyone who met Louise knew that she was always up for a chat. She was warm, vivacious, and endlessly curious about everyone she met. She was a constant presence in the lives of her friends, her children’s friends, and an ever-growing network of acquaintances young and old, near and far. She was never shy about expressing how she felt, and those close to her were never in any doubt of the love she had for them. Louise was an outdoor enthusiast – she loved walking, biking and spending time in her garden in summer, and skiing in winter. Louise is survived by her husband of 53 years, Gordon; her sons Paul (Karen) and Stephen (Julie Lafrenière); her brother Georges (Linda) and his family; her sister-in-law Judy (Ian) and her family; and her four dear, dear grandchildren: Kate, Liam, Sophie and Adele – the lights of her life. Louise was predeceased by her parents Jean and Hermine Dessaulles of Montreal. Visitation will be at McAdam Funeral Home in Fredericton on Friday July 29th, 2022, from 3pm to 6pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church on Saturday July 30th, 2022 at 11am. For those unable to attend the service, a live stream will be available at https://vimeo.com/734484942 We would like to thank the Hospice House of Fredericton and the doctors and nurses of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Fredericton Music Festival or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
