I was very sorry to hear about Tony's passing. He was one of my first drum teachers and a terrific mentor. His energy and enthusiasm were inspirational. I had the pleasure of playing drums for his "big" jazz band in the eighties, when we had a regular job at Sweetwaters. Tony was on vibes and the group included Roland Bourgeois, Lloyd Hanson, Eric Bourque, Ken Hamilton, and others. We had a great time playing together. Sincere condolences to the George family.

I will never forget Tony and Rose George. Tony was one of the most dynamic and charismatic individuals I have ever met. Rosemarie was just one very special and beautiful lady. I was so saddened at her passing at such a young age and I know Tony's world was never the same. In 1979 they took a chance on me.
Coming back to the city from a job Exhibition week, the Radio announced a Piano at Tony's Music Box that you could play for 20min and get $10.00. In my old grubby work clothes I stopped and went in. There set an Electric Yamaha Grand in the window front, no sign, no mentioned of the deal and not many people in the store. Michael was in the story and eventually asked if he could help me. I sort of embarrassingly asked about the message and he explained it was real but we wait for people to come in and ask. Looking at me he politely explained, you do have to play in the front window for 20 min.
Half an hour or so later I climbed out of the window. Great Piano and bit of a thrill indeed. Michael explained his Dad was not there and I would need to stop by the following week.
I stopped by the next week and have yet to meet a gentleman like Tony in my life time. In a matter of less that an hour he found I was a carpenter, he wanted a garage built and would I come look and give him a quote. I had recently received my license, always worked for someone else or on my own on small jobs. Had never given a quote on anything ! He was hyper, enthusiastic, and serious - I was terrified - but had agreed to meet. Rose quietly gave me the $10.00.
They were amazing to work for. That year I built a 24' x 36' garage, later they wanted cabinets built down one side of the garage, did some finish work in the basement. I removed a window in the living room and built a floor to ceiling 9' long piece of furniture (I still refer to as Rose's Cabinet) that included 2 Governor Winthrop style Cabinets with book shelves above. There was a connecting credenza, with a china Cabinet above. Mirrors, special lightening, hidden compartments and I lined a draw for Roses silverware. I believe for awhile Tony showed almost everyone who came to house the top hidden cabinet... after making them guess. As Rose and I worked out the design around what she wanted in it, she would often say to me, "Tell me what I would like Bob !" They placed a lot of faith in me and gave me confidence to help me in many future situations in life.
I eventually started renovations on the Cottage at Grand Lake, before heading to the Arctic to teach Carpentry and Industrial Arts. Three years later, while home in the summer they invited me to the Diplomat one day for lunch and asked if I would consider taking a year off to come back and build a home on Woodstock Road. I was not in a position to do that at the time but very honored they would ask. They didn't build there and I believe focused on Grand lake a bit more.
One last story. One day the contractor I used to put the slab down for the garage, was on site when Tony came back to the house. I introduced Tony to Jack Collett (I believe that is spelled correctly but it's been awhile and my name is not Tony ). As they were shaking hands Tony said, " Jack Collett, Call-it when you want it. I've got that name !" They never met again but apx 5 years later as we sat in the Diplomat discussing their idea Tony says, we could get the same guy to do the concrete work couldn't we. Jack,,,, Jack Collett, that was his name ... ! He had met him once ! That was the dynamic, amazing Tony George I met and remember.
It was a bonus to meet Terri, Michael, Lisa and Chris, and have occasionally run into all except Chris over the years at the store.
It grieves me to hear of Tony's passing, I can only hope and pray that through God's grace they are together once again. God Bless your families and continue the legacy. Bob Curtis

My sincere condolences to the family. I remember Tony from years back when my dad used to take me to Tony's store to buy guitars, bass, strings, etc. I also had a love for drums and got a set for Christmas when I was 11. My dad also painted Tony's car. Several years later I got to care for him and I'll miss our music chats and of course the piano playing. He had a million dollar smile. She will miss him.

I bought my first serious gear from Tony and he treated me fairly and like a pro, he gave me advice and I always sought him out in the store. he was quite the joker and always had a laugh or smile for you and was genuinely glad to see you, I missed seeing him in later years when he wasn't in the store much but I felt his presence and that says something about him. He was larger than life and I was proud to know him. My heart goes out to the family at this difficult time. I will miss him. Rest easy sir.

Mike, Terri and families. I was sadden to learn of your dad's passing. He was a true champion to both the local business and the music community. He was a good friend of my father back in the earlier days. I bought my first drum set from your dad, not from the store, but his own drum set he played with the Jekyll's and the Hyde's in the mid 1960's. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. Cherish the memories and share your stories.

Your Dad was one of the first people I met when I came to Fredericton back in 1975. He was such a great guy and I loved the way he interacted with customers at the "Estate" as Joey called it. Of course your Dad had just opened the Music Store upstairs and he got into Pianos???? as well as the other musically instruments and sheet music. And being young I was one of the lifters of those Pianos to the second floor ....and one of the lifters when he sold them. Such great memories of him. And I know you all have your own wonderful memories that you will carry with you for the rest of your lives. Tony was a genuine person and we all knew who the love of his life was... your Mom...and now I like to think they are reunited. ..The Georges have definitely left their footprint in Fredericton and it is a better place because of each of them.
Lizz joins with me in sending our love and condolences to all the George family....including Joey's kids and of course Roberta. God Bless you all during this difficult time Love Bruce and Lizz
