Obituary of Maria Algisa "Algy" Corsetti

The death of Maria Corsetti occurred on July 26, 2022 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB. Born in Minto, NB on June 26, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lucia (DiGiacinto) Corsetti. After a short stay in Minto, the Corsetti’s decided a move to Fredericton would be best for the family. Maria’s education began at St. Dunstan’s Elementary School followed by Fredericton High School and then on to the Provincial Normal School for Teachers located on Queen Street in Fredericton. She began her teaching career in a one room school house and then moved to Saint John, NB to teach at St.Vincent’s All Boys School. She then decided to upgrade her qualifications at the New York Teachers College and taught primarily Art to children, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Always with a thirst for knowledge, she wanted to try her hand at French and went to a small school in Arvida, QC and the language seemed to come to her naturally. Many years later she taught adults languages in Milan, Italy at the famous Berlitz School of Languages. She later returned to what she considered the most beautiful place of all, Fredericton, NB. Maria is the last surviving member of her immediate family being predeceased by her parents and sisters, Yolanda Valentino (Achille) and Santina “Tilley” Daley (Donald). She will be missed by her nephews, Joseph (Brenda) and John Valentino; nieces, Linda Gregan and Caterina Valentino (Owen Parker); great nieces, Olivia and Andrea Parker; great nephew, Charles Gregan (Shelley); special friends, Joan and Najat McFarland as well as many cousins and friends. A visitation will be held in the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Saturday, July 30, 2022 from 10-11am with a Memorial Service following. Rev. Suresh will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hermitage Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial tributes in Maria’s name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
