Obituary of Carroll Mary Nesbit

Carroll Mary Nesbit - maker of quilts, hoarder of fabric, thrower of parties, baker of pies, giver of pep talks (or a good kick in the arse), lover of Lays, guru of gardening, teacher, wife, mother, nannie and bossy big sister - passed away on September 8th, 2022, the same day as the other Queen. Carroll grew up in a house on “the back lane” in Blackville, New Brunswick, with her parents, Rita and Hally Ross, and her siblings, Gilbert, Judy, Ellen, Janice, Deborah and Rodney. She met her husband, Wayne Nesbit, at teacher’s college, and they eventually moved to St. John’s, Newfoundland where she spent almost 50 years, returning to New Brunswick every summer, without fail, to spend time with family. In Newfoundland, she and Wayne made an incredible number of very close friends, so many that they cannot all be named for fear of missing some. She is survived by her children, Chris and Lori, and their spouses, Laura and Chris, whose similar names confused her to the end. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Molly, Max, Pippa and Mallory, whom she adored, and her two grand dogs, whom she tolerated. Carroll was the life of the party to the very end. While we are filled with profound sadness and grief, our hearts are filled with gratitude that she shared her humour, love, wisdom, strength, sense of fun, and raspberry pies with us all. Special thanks to Dr. Patti Power in Newfoundland who treated her illness and also empowered her to live a full and happy life despite her diagnosis. Also, thank you to all of the staff at the Hospice House in Fredericton for the thoughtful, kind and skilled care given not only to Carroll but also to her family and friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to McAdam’s Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Blackville, New Brunswick, on Saturday, Sept 17th at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Fredericton would be greatly appreciated.
