John Rieger posted a condolence
Saturday, April 27, 2024
Hello,
My name is Dr. John Rieger. Preston and I were in the anaesthesia dept at the Montreal General in 1972. We struck it off immediately as we were both keen fishermen. He and I went to my fishing club in 1973 and had great fishing; it was there that he introduced me to the ‘whore fly’, for mature male fish; he hooked a monster with this fly but it got away. The reason I thought of this fly is that I was just watching a YouTube video where a young fisherman was using large streamers like Preston’s and catching seriuosly large Brown Trout. I always remember Preston when I’m fishing because of that fly. I hope you are all well and I will miss him.
John Rieger, MD

Dear Jeff (and also to your family):
My sincere condolences on the passing of your father. This news caused me to reflect on the true generosity he demonstrated to me as we grew up in Millidgeville. Apart from the many drives to soccer and various other activities and the frequent shared meals; I have a great memory of the trip to Mt. Katahdin with the amazing canoeing and hiking. He was so kind to include me along for the trip. May memories such as these remind you of the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
All the best,
Ricky Baxter (I don't add the "y" very often these days but it seems appropriate)

We were so sorry to hear about Preston. He had an impish sense of humour, always having those around him laughing, both at work and outside the hospital. He was also a skilled physician, someone his colleagues sought out for difficult or challenging situations, Preston was always there for them. He was a role model for me. He will be missed, but never forgotten.

My condolences to the Leavitt family. I joined Preston as an anesthesiologist in 1995 at the Chalmers Hospital and he was so welcoming to me and my family. He was a solid, reliable physician and a pleasure to spend time with. He loved his blueberry plantation and John Deere and I remember the time he got the schedule out of sync and was on his tractor on the farm but quickly made his way to the operating room. Like me, he liked to come to work early and spend a few minutes before the morning OR's having a relaxing chat with all. We all miss you. Brian Hamilton
