Albert Murray Family, It was with sadness I learned of Dr. Murray’s passing. After he retired and moved to New Maryland, our paths seldom crossed, but did a few times and I was always greeted with that broad smile, those deep dimples, and those twinkling eyes. He was always genuinely interested in what was happening in your life or with your family.
I met him just before Christmas at an event and had the privilege to converse with him once again. I taught at Nackawic High for years when he was Principal there and also when he became District Superintendent. In fact he hired me twice to teach at NHS, once when I was young and began my career, then I taught out of country, and when I came back after two years, he hired me once more and I finished out my 34+ career at Nackawic. I told him when I met him just before Christmas ‘22, he was my favourite administrator and I just loved him, to which he replied, well, I guess you haven’t had many then, and we chuckled. I remember him being keenly aware of what was going in in every classroom and he would drop in once in awhile in your class for a brief chat, or pop along to chat if one was on hall duty. He stayed in touch. If ever there was an area one could improve in, he would meet with you one on one for discussion and was never threatening or intimidating. He was kind and helpful. You knew he had your best interest and the student’s interest at heart and I became a better teacher and person because of it.
To Stephen, Kelly, Susie, Beth and the extended family we send our condolences and prayers. Your dad was loved and will be missed. I am sorry for your loss. Brian and Janet (Christensen) Ingraham

To Stephen, Chris and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Murray was one of the best principals I have ever had. He was kind, fair, and well respected by his students. I had the pleasure of reconnecting with him as a teacher and supervisor in former District 18. Mr. Murray guided our district through rough waters … he was not only an excellent educator but an inspiring leader. Please accept my sincere condolences. He was a great man.
Sincerely,
Philip Sexsmith

To Margaret and family,
Our family was so saddened to hear of Albert’s passing. The world has lost a bright light. His kind and generous heart was ever present. Along as knowing him as a brilliant educator our family will always remember him for his acting talents. For almost a decade Albert and Margaret would arrive with bells ringing to our home on Christmas Eve. Margaret would quietly hide and Albert would BECOME Santa. It was the perfect role that captured his natural charisma and honoured his love for children. Albert had one of those special smiles. The kind that made his eyes sparkle.
He will be missed. God bless and May peace be with you.

Margaret, Kelly, Stephen - I had the great pleasure to have Albert (Ab) as a teacher and a principal at SRHS, and to serve with him when he was a school superintendent in Woodstock. So true that he treated everyone the same. Always had a smile. He was my favourite teacher as well as a fiend and neighbour when I was in high school. I played hockey with him on the outdoor rink in Lower Southampton when he was a teacher. The last 2-3 years I enjoyed our talks on the trail here in Fredericton. My sincere condolences. I will miss him.

Ab Murray was one of the best people I have ever known. I had him for my principal at SRHS. I worked evenings and weekends at the NB TEL office in grade 11 and 12. Ab would always know when I had been on the switchboard the night before and he would not call on me for answers in class. I graduated in 1966 and moved to Ontario. Years later I wrote him a letter thanking him for everything he had done for me in school and for my family, outside of school. Time went by and out of the blue, he called me one Sunday morning, thanking me for my letter and saying he had told everybody, "this is why we teach!!", showing them my letter. Who does that? Ab Murray did that. He remembered all the students from my class and filled me in on everybody. When I tried to thank him again for his help, he said simple, "I just figured you had enough on your plate". I think about him often, and will always be grateful that he was in my life. My condolences to all.

We were shocked and deeply saddened today with the news of Albert's passing. Quite apart from his many accomplishments in education, Albert was an incredibly generous volunteer and leader in community affairs, which is how we met him. The Father's Day Walk was just one of the many ways he demonstrated his love of family and his commitment to helping others. Whether in his church or the larger community, it seemed he was always ready to pitch in. He was a brilliant organizer whose warmth, humor, and empathy encouraged us all. And more than this, we always knew that when Albert was leading, he brought the whole Murray team with him. In fact, it's hard to think of Albert without remembering the pride he took in all his children and their offspring. To the entire Murray family, our deepest condolences. Thank you, Margaret, for sharing him with us. Our sympathies to all.

My husband, \lewis, has been deceased for 7 years now and I sold my house and live in an apartment. At 80 I still work part time at Riverside Court retirement home in Woodstock and love the work. Reading it brought back memories of how Mr. Murray treated me. I was faulted as a student and ridiculed for where I was from, etc., Mr. Murray treated me with a great deal of respect and understanding. He was a good administrator. I am sure he will be terribly missed. Sorry for your loss.
