Obituary of Douglas Gerald Cavanaugh

Douglas “Doug” Gerald Cavanaugh passed peacefully on Monday, June 5th, 2023, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, with his beloved family by his side. Born on May 2nd, 1939, he was the son of the late Gerald and Viola (Lewis) Cavanaugh.

For 28 years, Doug worked with Canada Post, and retired as a letter carrier. He loved the outdoors, watching sports, playing baseball, hunting and fishing. Doug was quick witted, and loved to torment. If you were ever tormented by Doug, you knew you were someone close to his heart.

His family meant everything to him, and he was the happiest when he was with them. He loved his family immensely, and would go out of his way to spend time with any of them. This also included his weekend visits with Randy and Tracey, where he would go to hang out, enjoy a good supper, and make lots of memories, as they were his second family.

Doug will be greatly missed by his children, Bob Cavanaugh (JoAnne), Dixie Archibald, Pam Webb and Todd Cavanaugh (Kathleen); grandchildren, Jamie Macaulay (Nicole), Megan Scholton (Craig), Jen Fictorie (Brandon), Dabney Cavanaugh (Laura), Billy Archibald (Jessica), Brad Webb, and Duncan Cavanaugh; many great grandchildren, as well as several extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Doug is now reunited with his spouse, Maureen (Pond) Cavanaugh; sister, Margaret Buideau (Phil), as well as son-in-law, Bill Archibald.

The family wish to thank the staff at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital at 3SW, and Dr. McGibbon for their compassion and care extended to them and Doug.

A visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Thursday, June 8th, 2023, from 2 – 4 pm & 6 – 8 pm. A memorial service will be held at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Friday, June 9th, 2023, at 11 am, with Pastor Chris Price officiating. Interment will be held at the Marysville United Baptist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
