How can I pick just one memory of Larry? The 25 Big Mac story? Him coming to Ottawa for the Freedom Protest? The Kosovo tour in general? Or battle school in Wainwright, 1998? Or time in the regiment before the Assault Troop in Kosovo? Or the time I was in the hospital with my jaw broken, and he and Shauna came to visit, and when I passed out from the pain killers, they were still there? Larry and I had some adventures, and my life was richer for them.

Sergeant (Ret’d) Lawrence (Larry) Leaman ~Taken way to soon, suffered way to much!
I remember Larry being at the house with Chad as a little boy ~ out in the river skipping rocks, playing with trucks, cars, camping up on the hill behind the church! I left Petty Harbour when he would have been 13 to join the Navy, and the next I remember hearing of Larry was he had Joined the Army! it was just recent I realized he had reached the rank of Sgt and was retired.
Larry, your unwavering dedication to your country and Queen (pre King Charles) is exemplary! Your numerous tours to war torn countries to aid in the protection of the innocent and vulnerable left you to see and witness what no human ever should!
I am heart sick for your Mom, Dad, beautiful teenage children, there mom and entire extended family! Larry has left a void that will never be fill with his brothers and sisters throughout the CAF!
He will be met with open arms by his brothers and sisters that have gone before him! He will never be alone.
He can Rest In Peace as he has guided in the making of many other amazing Soldier to take his watch. Please God all future deployments for our CAF mbrs will be Peace Keeping Missions (wishful thinking), and his scarifies will not have been in vain! “Fly high with the angels Sgt (Ret'd) Leaman and be at peace!” We have your watch……
Chief Petty Officer (Ret’d) Renee Grimm (Birmingham)

I was so saddened to learn of Larry’s (little Larry as we knew him) passing. Larry was always so full of life, and love and a big part of my childhood, growing up together as part of the “Big Hill” family. You will be greatly missed my friend. Sending my condolences to Larry Sr., Pam, Nina and Larry’s children and extended family and friends near and far.

Many years ago, as a soldier in C Squadron, Lord Strathconas Horse, Larry and I conquered the field in table tennis. We were the unofficial regimental ping pong champs, having won a tournament against Recce Squadron, thereby securing the covetted table in our own lines. I always felt Larry let me win a game or two because he really was an outstanding athlete, and I was just an old guy. When Brenda and I had our second daughter she was born, unexpectedly, with Down Syndrome. We were somewhat devastated. Larry and Shauna dropped by the house with a gift for the baby. Larry took one look at Sami and said, "she's beautiful." And he meant it! And he was right. One time at a regimental beer call, after a few brews, I inadvertently opened my big mouth and pissed off some angry Master Corporal. He wanted to teach the presumptuous Corporal a lesson in respect. To my surprise, Larry leaped to my defense. "Leave Simpson alone," Larry kindly suggested, "he's a poet and a philosopher." Strange defense, in that it was more poetic than true, but it worked. For me that was Larry, he always got to the heart of the matter. He was a warrior, a compassionate knight, and a man of boundless energy and humour. As a real poet once wrote, "flights of angels sing thee to thy rest" (Hamlet, Act 5, Scene 2). Rest in Peace brave armoured knight!

My deepest condolences and heart felt prays go out Pamela and Big Larry although as it turns out little Larry ended up being much bigger than his father. Like his dear friend Gerard said in his post I knew Larry for over 40 + years went right through school with him played fast pitch with him as was told over and over that Grant Fhur was the greatest goalie ever.We spent countless nights in his cabin on the back of his parent's house drove poor old Nina nuts she should have killed us all, but for all the time I spent with him as a young boy and then up until he left to serve his Country I never realized I was standing next to a Canadian hero that happened when I seen you walking to the war memorial in Petty Harbour for the first time medals on your chest and a sense of pride and determination on your face but nothing near the pride on both your parents face.
Thank you my dear friend you will never be forgotten keep up the Good fight and my your mind be at rest

I knew Larry for probably 40+ years. I grew up from a young boy with Larry. We had many family vacations together, and most of my childhood memories, involve him! We Joined the Reserves together, I lived with him and shauna for awhile In Edmonton while I was in the forces. Played on many military sports teams with him, and got into a fair amount of sticky situations with him too!
Through everything, he always had my back. Wether it was it was on George street or at the Atlantic trap and gill, or anywhere else, Larry had my back and he knew I had his.
His personality and heart was as large as he was, everyone who has ever met larry, has a story to share. He had a way of impacting people like that! You will be missed my friend!
I know we’ll see each other again someday buddy, until then, rest easy!
