Obituary of Diane Barbara Castle

To let you all know, it is with a heavy heart that we announce Diane Barbara Castle, born of Bath, England, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2023.

Nursing was Diane’s calling, and she happily dedicated her life to it for 64 years, retiring at 80. She went above and beyond her call of duty as a nurse, and treated all her patients with kindness and compassion. Her career took her many places, as she started out as a midwife, then was led into the Navy as a nurse. After her time with the Navy, she found herself heading to Newfoundland, where she was a head nurse at Burgeo. When she arrived in Fredericton, she was a labour and delivery nurse at the DECH. She later transferred to being an Extramural nurse. Diane finished her career as a footcare nurse, having established the group Toes R’ Us with Donna MacLean.

Diane was a kind, compassionate, gentle and quiet soul, with an awesome sense of humor. She was an avid reader of many books, and media, including the newspaper, especially the Saturday Globe and Mail. Hiking outdoors, and being at the beach relaxing, swimming, or reading were some of Diane’s favourite activities. She seemed most at peace while reading outside, especially at the beach, or walking by the ocean or large bodies of water. Diane will be dearly missed by many friends, colleagues and family.

She will be greatly missed by her beloved spouse, Laura Lockwood; niece, Johanne Sutherland (Frank); nephew, Dean Sutherland (Sherry); great nephews, Sam and Alex Bussiere, as well as Aidan and Liam Sutherland; a great great nephew, Ashton Sutherland, and many cousins.

Diane was predeceased by her parents, Leslie and Elsie Castle, her sister, Brenda Sutherland, and brother-in-law, Jim Sutherland.

Her wife, of 30 years, Laura, will love her and miss her to the moon and back. Rest in peace my sweet Dido.

In keeping with Diane’s wishes, cremation will take place. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Diane donated to many charities, for those who wish to donate in her memory please consider Hospice House, or a charity of your choice.
