Obituary of Jack Donald Fletcher
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Donald “Don” Fletcher on January 7th, 2024, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born on December 30th, 1931, in Springhill, NS, he was the son of the late Joseph Hamilton and Bertha Iona (Stonehouse) Fletcher.
Don lived a full 92 years filled with wonderful memories, warm friendships, and a life of never-ending adventure. He began his financial career in NS as an insurance agent, and then moved to Montreal, PQ, to work for the company Mussens, where he met his beloved best friend, and wife, Margaret Alder (Tant) Fletcher. They married in 1957 and continued to live and grow their family in Montreal. After 20 years in Montreal, they moved their 4 children to Halifax, NS, where he worked at Atmus Maritimes. 3 years passed and Don had the opportunity to work with the New Brunswick Provincial Government. This is what led his family and himself to Fredericton, NB, where he finished his career in the pension branch of the Finance Department with the provincial government.
In addition to being a hard worker, Don took the most pride in being the best husband and father he could be. Family was his first and foremost priority, and he made sure that they were always looked after. He loved to express himself through art, and he taught and shared this passion to many. He also loved flowers, tending to his garden, singing in local choirs, golfing, bowling, tennis, playing cards especially bridge, and traveling with Margaret and his family in his later years.
Don will be greatly missed by his wife, Margaret Fletcher; children, Carole Fletcher (Brian Dore), Susan Dean (John) and Anne Fletcher (Derek Hanscome); grandchildren, Brandon, Amanda, Jason, Maggie (Erich), Jessica (Kiel), Brittany (Jonathon), Jordan, Joseph (Danielle), Jami, Taryn, and Miranda (Shaun); great grandchildren, Carter, Ashton, Caitlin, Ben, Kaleb, Bennett, Owen, John, Lucas, George, Arthur, Gretchen, MaryJane, Sophie, Liam, and Andersen, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by his daughter, Gillian Fletcher; brothers, Douglas and Harold Fletcher, as well as a sister, Beth Maitland.
A memorial service will be held at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 12th, 2024 at 11 am, with Rev. Michelle Armstrong officiating.
