Obituary of Charles George Prescott

Charles “Chuck” Prescott of New Maryland, NB, passed away on July 31, 2024 at the age of 75.

 

Charles was born in a small farming community of New Denmark, NB.

 

He is survived by his sister Geraldine Redstone (Wayne), of Fredericton, NB; brothers, Doug (Marie) of Beijing, China, Leo, of New Denmark, NB, Leigh (Lynn) of Bedford, NS, and several nieces and nephews.

 

Charles was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Shirley (Watson) Prescott.

 

A dedicated educator and mentor, Charles was a proud graduate of UNB. He taught in the school system for 34 years at Wassis Junior High and Oromocto High Schools. Charles was the recipient of several awards during his career, including the Queens Silver Jubilee Medal and The Centennial award from the NB Teachers Association. His dedication was not limited to the classroom. Charles spent many hours as the faculty advisor to the student council, guiding the students in raising thousands of dollars for the Safe Grad program.

 

Outside of the school, Charles was involved with the New Brunswick Teachers Association where he held numerous positions. He was a member of the Executive of Basketball NB for over 30 years. Charles was an active and recognized member of the Kiwanis club of Fredericton and served on the Board of Governors of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery for 12 years. He loved to play cards, and spent many hours playing a good game of bridge with family, friends, and colleagues. Chuck was also an avid bowler, and had several league championships and tournament wins.

 

Charles is resting at McAdam's Funeral Home, in Fredericton NB. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug 7, 2024, from 12:00 to 2:00pm, followed by a funeral service in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel, beginning at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in New Denmark, NB, on Friday, August 9, 2024, beginning at 2:00pm, for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles's memory may be made to the Kiwanis Club of Fredericton, the Maple Grove Cemetery, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
