My condolences to Carl's family for loosing a very fine person. Carl was a special colleague of mine who was always willing to share his expertise in a kind and helpful way. He was a gentle man and a great architect for whom I often relied on when I had a question or needed some advise professionally as he was always there for wise advice. I will miss him.

A very sincere message of condolence to you all during this time of great sorrow. Kevin worked with Carl for many years and as others have expressed - both he & Carmel became friends moreso than co-workers. He would sometimes call - asking for and seeking advice concerning the latest software update, computer glitch or an opinion on what computer he should purchase. Each time, his queries were answered, Carmel was happy and life went on - until the next call where he would repeat those very same questions . He was a gentle soul - gracious, kind and very humble. The architectural world has truly lost a great, great man.
Let it be of some comfort to you all knowing that he has finally been reunited with his true love and their distinguished legacy will live on in each and every one of you.
Most sincerely,
Kevin & Lisa Deighan

So sorry to read about Carl’s passing. He was a talented architect and a warm, gracious gentleman with a ready smile and a good story to tell. I looked forward to AANB meetings chiefly to have a chat and a chuckle with Carl. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Brian and I were saddened to learn of Carl's passing. It is never easy for those left behind at any time or for any reason, but the timing is especially poignant given that Carl was scheduled to be able to leave the hospital and move into Shannex's assisted living facilities.
Carl was a wonderful neighbour, but before we became neighbours, we valued the opportunity to get to know him and spend time together when he generously assisted us with his extensive architectural talents and skills.
Hopefully, you will be able to find some measure of comfort as you remember happier and healthier times and the time you, as a family, spent with him this fall. Nonetheless, one’s father is the patriarch of the family and we know that he will be dearly missed in your lives going forward as well as the many other lives he touched.

Elaine and Maurice Harquail were deeply saddened and want to express our sincere condolences on the passing of the man, Carl Smyth.
Through friends of the congregation at the Holy Family Church in Fredericton, we had the pleasure of getting to know Carl and his daughter Carol, who assisted at Sunday Mass.
Even though it was a short time that we knew Carl, we felt his kindness and friendship.
We had the privilege of learning of Carl’s distinguished career and becoming the oldest architect in Canada with some of his distinguished designs in the capital city of Fredericton.
When you got to know Carl and all his extended family, you learned he was not only an accomplished architect, but also a distinguished family man. We had the pleasure of meeting some of Carl’s family and we wanted to join with his family and friends to express a deep sympathy at this time.
We know he will be sadly missed.
He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Maurice and Elaine Harquail

I am so sorry to hear of Carl's passing. I spent many years working with Carl and Carmel and they became more friends than employers. Carl had a great passion for Architecture and appreciation for the people who worked in the trades. He could be seen talking to not only the person running the job but also the guy digging the ditch. He was liked by all, you didn't work for Carl you worked with him, I will miss him dearly.

What a loss to our City! Carl was a brilliant architect, and in addition to working with him from my job in City Hall, I had Carl design a proud addition to my home, and he even supervised construction! He was a very kind person, and treated all with respect.
My sincere condolences to the whole family at your loss. May you be comforted by all the good, fun-times you shared with Carl.
