Obituary of H. Orville Scott CET

We regret the passing of H. Orville Scott, CET, of Fredericton, NB, on Friday, February 19, 2021 at home. Orville is survived by Monnie Scott, his wonderful wife of 66 years. He is also survived by their three children, Daniel (Jude) of Edmonton, AB, Susan (Roger) of Columbia, North Carolina, and Rachel (Brian) of Independence, Kentucky, five grandchildren – Peter Spiers (Daniel), Jeremy Smith, Paul Smith, Amanda Smith (Susan), Megan Cafferty (Rachel), and two great grandchildren, Liam and Lucy Smith (Jeremy). Orville is survived by a brother, Ernest Scott (Christina, deceased) of Taymouth, NB, and a sister, Alta Vahi (Mart) of Estonia. He was predeceased by his mother Amy Scott, his father, and a number of step brothers and step sisters. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. Orville graduated from Fredericton High School, New Brunswick Technical Institute and Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. He retired in 1993 as an engineering technician from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton. Over the years he held various positions with a number of organizations. These included: President, New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (1975); Part time Executive Director and Registrar of NBSCETT (1976-92); Founding President of the UNB Retired Employees Association (1993-95); Founding President of the UNB Technical Staff Association (1971-73); President, Fredericton Curling Club (2003-05). Orville also held many church related positions including: Deacon (almost 50 years), Youth Leader (27 years) and Senior’s Group Leader (20 plus years). He coordinated an annual NB wide church related Seniors’ Conference for 20 Years. He watched and followed most sports, participating in a number on a recreational level. These included playing 25 years in the UNB Employees Softball League; 20 years with the Fredericton Masters Softball Group; Curling for many years with the Fredericton Curling Club and the Capital Winter Club; and playing volleyball for a number of years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you would consider donating to a memorial fund in honour of Orville Scott, Audio Visual Ministry c/o Calvary Baptist Church. A funeral service for family and invited guests only will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 2:00 pm.
