I still can't believe I lost my friend, who would stop by our house once in a while to see what we had going on. If we have the light show today, it is in big part due to his ideas of putting lights like he did in his backyard. I will forever cherish the moments we spoke as you knew exactly where Steve stood when he spoke. No back stabbing, the truth would come out like the day is bright. RIP my friend. You are now back with the lovely Louise. To the family, please know that anyone who knew Steve, will never forget him. I know I sure won't.

I am saddened to hear of Steve's passing. I first met Steve when I started with NB Power in the 80's. I was told all things Dipatch call Steve. Then came the NBP bowling tournaments and I was on his team. I quickly learned we were not there to win but to have fun and socialize, and Steve was the best at it!! In later years it was all things Union, I called Steve. I always considered Steve a good friend with a kind heart. My deepest condolences to all of Steve's family.

Stephen, Sandra and Families. I was shocked to hear of your Dad's sudden death. We are both Cape Bretoners born on June 18, me a few years ahead of him. After you both grew up and left Lincoln School, your Dad and I would frequently meet each other. He was a great supporter of our Church Suppers. Last year I volunteered to work with the Ys Men at the Grant Harvey Arenam. Sandra and Stephen, you could do no wrong in Dad's eyes and I second that motion. Draw on all your great memories to get through these difficult times. Hope to see you at the Visitation

I'm Steve Hayes, my friends call me Hazer ... you must be the new guy's. I was Orlando, Florida, at my first IBEW conference (2007). So began a beautiful friendship, one I will cherish for all time. About 10 years ago, in Halifax, I was honoured to become the co-founder and co-chair of the Canadian Utility Safety Program (CUSP). I'm sure it's no surprise to anyone that Steve was the driving force behind that wonderful initiative. He was unselfish to the core. Along with other Business Managers across Canada, we wanted Steve to retain his leadership of the program after he retired. CUSP will always be Hazer's. I loved you like a brother Wee Man (an affectionate Scottish title). They broke the mold when they made Steve. RIP my friend.

I am shocked and saddened on the passing of Steve. I met him many years ago at the early morning rally's defending NB Power as a NB entity. We developed a fast friendship based on our dedication to the union movement, the Boston Bruins and the fact that he knew and worked with a family member of mine from Bathurst. He leaves a big hole in the hearts and lives of many. Please accept my sincere condolences both personally and from the board of directors at the NB Nurses Union. May he Rest In Peace and the family find comfort in all the good he has done in his lifetime. Sincerely, Paula
