Obituary of F. Stephen Hayes

It is with sadness that the family of F. Stephen Hayes announces his passing at home on March 9th, 2021, at the age of 67. Born in Glace Bay, NS, on June 18th, 1953, he was the son of the late Louis and Rita (Oliver) Hayes. Steve was predeceased by his wife, Louise Neveu. He leaves behind his children, Stephen Hayes (Marsha) and Sandra Hayes; grandchildren, Jessica, Abby, and Johnathan Hayes and Jenna Casey; great granddaughter, Raya; brother, Derrick Hayes (Kelly); sister, Charlotte Melanson (Kevin); cousin and best friend, Aaron Metcalf; several nieces and nephews; and his two fur babies, Arthur and Frederick. Steve was a loving father, friend, leader, and mentor to many during his journey. He went above and beyond for his brothers and sisters at Local 37 NB Power and he was a dedicated volunteer to many, from playing Santa for the children of his friends and neighbours to dedicating many hours to the various associations he was part of. A passion for sports was a part of his life from coaching softball to curling, bowling, hockey, softball, and hunting. He loved golfing with his team mates at the Gage Golf Club and the endless amounts of laughter they shared will always be remembered. Steve touched the lives of many over the years and his passion to help was one of a kind. He volunteered with the Y’s Men Club where he enjoyed working at the Junior Red Wings hockey games and helped with Little Rocks curling as a member of the Capital Winter Club. He loved to get to know people as a member of many organizations including the YMCA, the Gage Golf Club in Oromocto and he bowled as part of a league. He was also Union President of the IBEW Local 37 for NB Power. Steve also was a major contributor to the organization AA for nearly 3 decades. He was devoted to helping others and his work was unparrallel. A public visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Monday, March 15th, from 2-4 and 6-9 pm.
