Obituary of Charles Arthur Sargeant, LLB

We are saddened to announce Charlie’s passing on March 22, 2021, following a brief period of illness. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elynor (McNeil) and predeceased by his parents James Harold and Jean (MacKenzie) Sargeant. Charlie grew up in Plaster Rock, NB, and studied at the University of New Brunswick before beginning his law career. Early in his career he served as Clerk Assistant to the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly and went on to practise law in Fredericton for 50 years. In 1988, he was honoured with the designation of Queen’s Counsel, was a long-standing member of the New Brunswick Law Society and the Canadian Bar Association. Charlie had a love of politics and was active with the New Brunswick Liberal Association and Liberal Party of Canada. In addition to Charlie’s wife Elynor, he is survived by a brother Daniel (Joan) of Lunenburg, NS; children Angela Francoeur (Mark) of Fredericton, Susan Wilson (Kerry) of Quispamsis and Stephen (Brenda Farnquist) of Kelowna, BC; grandchildren Tim and Kate Francoeur, Kiara (Josh Haupert), Dustin, Rebecca and Matthew Wilson, and Sofia Sargeant; as well as great-granddaughter Poppy Haupert. Given Charlie’s quick smile, sharp wit, distinctive laugh and warm heart, we know there are many stories to be shared and ask that you share those stories for compilation in a family memory book. Your memories can be sent online to mcadams@mcadamsfh.com or mailed to McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York St., Fredericton, NB.
