Obituary of David Cameron Hryn

It is with great sadness that the family of David Cameron Hryn announce his peaceful passing on May 4, 2021 at the age of 61 after a valiant battle with cancer. Dave was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to Peter and Doreen (nee Smith) Hryn. The family moved to Saskatoon, in 1963. He attended Westmount School and Bedford Road Collegiate and then on to the University of Saskatchewan to obtain a Chemical Engineering and Chemistry Degrees. At a young age during his elementary school years, he was recruited to swim with the Y-Knots Swim Club. He then went on to swim with the Goldfins, Saskatoon Master’s and Fredericton Master’s swim clubs where he excelled. He broke a number of records, particularly in the Master’s Division, some of which still remain on the record books today. In addition to swimming, he also played water polo. His other interests included playing Bridge of which he attained Life Master Title, cycling, officiating triathlons, gardening, and cooking with a variety of unusual spices. In Saskatoon and Fredericton, he could often be found at the Bridge Club charming the older club goers, particularly the ladies with his dry humor and wit. He was also an avid reader and did love his record collection. While in Fredericton he developed a taste and appreciation for fine Scotch Whiskey and enjoyed sampling many interesting brands over the past few years with friends and family. On June 19, 1993 he married the love of his life, Marilynn Georgas. They celebrated 27 years together. Their anniversary tradition was to put on their wedding garb and take a picture. They both still fit into their outfits this last year. Or should we say that Dave’s top half of the outfit still fit. I believe he may have had a reason for just having the picture taken from the waist up. In 2004, Dave and Marilynn moved to Fredericton, New Brunswick when Dave left the employ of the City of Saskatoon and joined Environment Canada to work as an Aquatic Technician where he worked until his passing. Dave will be missed for his deep voice and hearty laugh, his wit, welcoming personality, and logical mind. He was a good person to bounce ideas off of as he would always provide you with a well thought through response. Dave leaves to mourn, his wife, Marilynn Georgas, stepmother-in-law, Barbara Georgas Orillia, Ont. Siblings: Donna Hryn, Saskatoon, SK, Darlene (Kevin) Stainbrook, Saskatoon, SK, Darcy (Melvin) Bird, Saskatoon, SK, Brothers in law: Jim Georgas (Shirley), Edmonton, AB and Chris N. Georgas (Fabienne Montserrat), Limoux, France, aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and former teammates. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Doreen Hryn, his father-in-law, James P. Georgas, mother-in-law, Toni Georgas, Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family would like to thank all the Doctors and staff at both the Moncton Hospital for the initial care and the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, 3 East, for the exceptional care they provided Dave. At Dave’s request there will not be a service. You can raise a glass of your finest Scotch to Dave with a smile and fond memories. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a memorial donation in Dave’s name be made to The Terry Fox Foundation or a charity of your choice.
