Obituary of Darrell Allen Kitchen

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darrell Allen Kitchen, our beloved father and grandfather on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Darrell passed away peacefully at Hospice House, Fredericton. With his earthly journey now complete, Darrell will now be reunited with his dear wife, Janice E. (McLaughlin) Kitchen who predeceased him in 2017. Born in Fredericton on December 23, 1940, he was the only son of the late Clifford and Glenda (MacQuarrie) Kitchen. His only sister, Sandra G. (Kitchen) Taylor predeceased him in 2013. Darrell was a faithful member of Smythe Street Church, Fredericton and over the years served on numerous boards and committees. Darrell was a gifted musician and was renowned for his outstanding Piano and Xylophone playing. Prior to his retirement, he was a much loved and highly respected instructor at the Maritime Forest Ranger School and Executive Director of the Association of Registered Professional Foresters. Darrell was a sports enthusiast at heart and especially loved playing and watching hockey. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his granddaughter Taylor play hockey and he was her strongest supporter. Taylor always made his heart smile big. Darrell leaves behind two much loved and adored daughters, Jennifer Gregan of Beaverdam, NB and Stephanie Kitchen of Florida. Darrell was lovingly known as Grampy to his cherished granddaughter, Taylor Gregan. Also surviving are brothers-in-law Eugene and Mike and sisters-in-law, Linda, Diane and Judy as well as a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and a host of treasured friends. He has left a legacy of faith and devotion. A Memorial Service will be held at the Smythe Street Church on Monday, May 16, 2022 at 11:00 am, with an interment to follow at the Prince William Cemetery. The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Prince William Cemetery Fund or to a favorite charity of the donor’s choice. The family wish to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Brunswick Hall, Shannex, Fredericton for the excellent care and support Darrell received while in their care.
