Obituary of James Robert Batt

Following a short but brave battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce Jim’s passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on May 18, 2020 at the age of 67. Jim was born in Moncton on Nov. 28, 1952 and was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Lillian (Smith) Batt. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda (Marr) Batt, son Peter, daughter-in-law Kelly (Mayne) and granddaughter Sophia, as well as his daughter Amy and son-in-law Rhett Wyntjes. Jim is also survived by his father- and mother-in-law, John and Margaret Marr, sisters Carol (Norm) Sheen and Edie (Ted) Colson, sister-in-law Beth (Tim) McCann and brother-in-law David (Daniela) Marr, along with several nieces and nephews. After graduating from Moncton High School in 1970, Jim continued his education in Fredericton at the University of New Brunswick. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1975. He then began a successful career in Fredericton as a Professional Engineer, working with NB Power, Neill and Gunter and Stantec. Over the years, his work as a consultant took him to various locations across Canada, the United States and Scotland. A lifetime member of APEGNB, he was highly respected in his field and thoroughly enjoyed his profession until his retirement a few years ago. Beyond work, Jim was a loving family man. He took great pride in watching his children grow over the years, always encouraging them to be well-rounded individuals. Later in life, he loved spending time with them and their spouses. He especially cherished his time with his sweet granddaughter Sophia, the light of his life. She and her Grandpa had a very special relationship. Throughout his life, Jim had many interests. He loved to spend his free time motorcycling, snowmobiling, skiing, boating, golfing and ATVing. He always shared his interests in these activities with his family. He puttered with many projects, big and small, and loved finding solutions to any challenge he was presented with. We always knew, "if Grandpa can’t fix it, no one can." Jim and Linda enjoyed many wonderful years and adventures together. He will be dearly missed. The family wishes to thank the healthcare professionals who supported Jim.
